Winamp Remote
I am using Winamp Pro 5.5. I would like to get Winamp back to the state of usefulness that was 5.0. Here are my gripes with this release; I welcome any advice that would help solve any of these problems.
1. I can't have a larger playlist without having the Media Library open.
2. Failing 1. above, the Media Library window has a minimum width (if it could be set to 0, I'd be fine with it being 'open' in a vacuous sense.)
3. Even with Winamp Remote started, I can not find the function for ripping a CD in the Media Library. Has this been removed, or is it just well-hidden to make things 'friendlier' for Nullsoft's long-term customers?
4. I can't get Winamp to stop bugging me to register for Winamp Remote. I don't want it; I want nothing to do with it; I don't want to be pestered to get it. I only have one computer, and I do not want any Winamp Remote functionality. I want my Media Library back WITHOUT using this useless piece of software. Really -- I can't get ANY functionality out of the Media Library without having a Remote account.
5. I want the Sonic Extraction Engine to support XP 64 and Vista 64. Currently it either BSODs these machines or doesn't work.
6. I can not find an option to disable the On-Screen Display of track change. This is extremely annoying on full-screen applications, because it causes flickering between the OSD and the fullscreen app. Game players will know exactly what I mean. Run ANY OpenGL or DirectX application and you'll see what I mean.
If you are a user or moderator with real solutions to any of the six things I listed above, then I am very thankful for your efforts, and I would be happy to try your suggestions. I don't think it's beyond saving; perhaps with a little work (or a lot of work!) we can restore Winamp 5.5's many unfortunate regressions back to the grand state of affairs that was Winamp 5.0.
Thanks,
allquixotic
